If you’ve ever wanted to see Homer Simpson get squished by a Tauntaun or yeti or something in the name of charity, your wish has been granted.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has wended its way through social media over the past month or two, prompting all sorts of people to dump buckets of ice water over their heads to raise awareness of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, aka amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Of course, awareness isn’t the only thing it’s supposed to raise; the challenge is supposed to inspire people to make a donation to the ALS Association. You can actually make a donation without pouring a bucket of ice water over your head, as per Patrick Stewart’s charming video, but where’s the fun in that?
No matter how cynical you might be about watching cartoon characters shiver after being doused by ice water, you’ve gotta admit it’s been an effective way to raise funds.
